Dr. Tibor G. Rozgonyi – Engineer, FIEAust, CPEng, as an Advisor, collaborates with team members to develop innovative solutions and ensure project success through informed recommendations.
FIEAust, CPEng is a distinguished mining and geotechnical engineering academic and practitioner with formal training in mathematics and mining engineering, holding BS, BE, MS, and Doctorate degrees from Hungary. His early career includes hands-on industrial experience in hard-rock (iron ore) and underground coal mining.
He has held senior academic and leadership roles at leading institutions worldwide, including the University of Miskolc, the University of Tripoli, New Mexico Tech, Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at Austin (visiting professor), the University of Wollongong, and the Colorado School of Mines. At Texas A&M, he served as Professor and Director of the Coal and Mineral Research Laboratory, leading major research programs in rock mechanics, geotechnical engineering, mine design, mineral processing, and ore reserve estimation.
Appointed by the Governor of Texas, he served as an expert on tunnelling, ventilation, and bulk material handling for the Superconducting Super Collider project, alongside extensive industrial consultancy in mining, energy, offshore infrastructure, and advanced materials processing.
From 1990 to 1995, he was Dean of Engineering at the University of Wollongong, where he revitalized engineering education and research and established multiple nationally recognized research centers. In 1995, he was elected to the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering in recognition of his contributions.
He later returned to the United States as Head and Professor of the Mining Engineering Department at the Colorado School of Mines, overseeing major research facilities and expanding the program into earth systems engineering, sustainable mining, underground construction, and tunnelling.
